Pregnant women who contract bacterial vaginosis are at greater risks of a miscarriage because of the organisms that multiply within the vaginal tract. Many miscarriages occur very early in pregnancy before a women even knows she is pregnant. Though trauma and stress are not a usual cause for miscarriages in the early stage of pregnancy, it could be a possibility. Consumption of drugs and alcohol by the mother to be could bring on a miscarriage; and if the age of the mother to be is more than 35 the risk of having a miscarriage is increased.
A third cause of miscarriage can be when the fertilized egg or ovum of the woman fails to implant or attach in the proper place. In order to maintain pregnancy, the fertilized egg must implant inside the uterine cavity of the mother. In ectopic pregnancies, the fertilized egg implants outside the uterine cavity.
