According to reports almost 70 percent of all women will experience a yeast infection at least once in their lives. And the most common type of yeast infection that women experience is vaginal yeast infection or vaginitis. Vaginitis is the inflammation of the vagina that is usually caused by an infection.

The condition is caused due to an overgrowth of fungus called Candida Albicans in the digestive tract, mouth cavity, or genital regions and is characterized by excessive pain, itching and burning sensation in the genitals along with white cottage cheese like discharge.

Even if you've never experienced a yeast infection in your life, you've more than likely heard that it's caused by an overgrowth of candida albicans. When there's an imbalance regarding beneficial bacteria in the body, the candida yeast is able to multiply unchecked, and that's when a yeast infection sets in. In most cases, it is the moist areas of the body which are most vulnerable.

Vaginal yeast infection symptoms set in about a week before menstruation day, which is attributable to the changes in the woman's body leading to an environment that foster yeast growth. These symptoms may appear harmless at first until these simply cannot be ignored any longer because of the pain.

Yeast is naturally present in the vagina, but when there is an increase it causes the female yeast infection. Ways to determine whether there has been an over increase in vaginal yeast to cause an infection include specific symptoms that the woman can experience. However, one should be aware that many of the symptoms of a yeast infection are similar to those of other medical issues.

Natural yogurt is great for the immune system because it contains friendly probiotic bacteria that help our digestive tract from the bad bacteria. For getting rid of a Candida infection make sure you use plain yogurt with no sugar, no colourings or flavours. You need to apply the yogurt as you would a cream to the affected area.

Use plain, unsweetened yogurt. Candida, which is the bacteria causing vaginal thrush, feeds on sugar. Don't feed it anymore! I highly recommend making your own yogurt using Keffir or another type of yogurt starter. I recommend this because you have control over the type of milk you use.

One of yeasts biggest enemies is garlic so you can see why it can be very helpful to add some garlic to your diet. There are supplements that can be inserted directly into the vagina for instant relief but it is not necessary to get the full benefits. You can simply add more garlic into your diet or by taking a daily garlic supplement.

Tea Tree Oil is a powerful antifungal agent and is very effective when used to treat a vaginal yeast infection. It kills off the bacteria and almost any other type of skin infection. Make sure you use diluted tea tree oil and not 100% concentrated as it is very powerful. You can apply a few drops of diluted tea tree oil onto a tampon and insert into the vagina for a couple of hours.
