PCE Contaminated Water a Concern

PCE (tetrachloroethylene) is contaminating the water of Grand Island in Nebraska, and the community wants to know what the government is going to do about it. They could potentially solve their problems by using water distillers.
Tetrachloroethylene or PCE is also referred to as perchloroethylene, and it was found at the site of a former solvent making plant which was shut down in 1975 due to bankruptcy. It was discovered that this site had been guilty of causing contamination in the 1970s. The local railroad company owned the land in the 70s and has been doing chemical clean up under the auspices of the state Department of Environmental Quality.
While this all sounds well and good on the surface, area residents are concerned that they have heard very little from the railroad company or from the group who is supposed to be in charge of testing the water. Neither the railroad nor the water testing firm have spoken to anyone about the better alternative for pure and fresh water, water distillers.
Many of the residents have a sneaking suspicion their water is not being tested or not being tested properly. And, in what might be called a rather ironic twist, considering there is supposed to be a company testing the water, the state has suggested they have a water testing kit for $198 and the water has to be tested within 24 hours of a sample being taken. In reality, the residents would not need to consider this expense or hassle if their homes were equipped with water distillation systems.
To combat what the residents feel is contaminated water, they have been getting bottled water, and while this is a temporary solution, over the long-term bottled water may have its own level of contamination to contend with depending on its source. Other area residents have installed charcoal-based filtration systems which are not effective to handle the kind of contamination these people are dealing with in their community. Only water distillers are the effective answer to this problem.
To this point in time, many of the concerns of the area residents seem to be falling on deaf ears as the railroad company and water testing outfit are not responsive to their calls and concerns. Bringing in bottled water seemed to make sense to them, but many of them are not aware that the better method of ensuring safe and pure water was to have water distillers in their homes.
Having contaminated water in the community has affected more than just the drinking water. It has had a lousy effect on the housing market. Owners with homes for sale can’t sell them because no one will buy a house in an area where the water is bad. In cases like this, the best solution is to install a water distillation system in the home.
