Panic attacks can happen to anybody, at any place and at any given time. It can be caused by anything. When people are consumed by anxiety attacks, they tend to feel weak and could barely take control of their situation. However, this does not have to happen to you. You can fight panic attacks and get your life back with some of this tips I am going to share.
First and foremost, you need to know the symptoms when anxiety attack hits you. Always remember that having panic attacks does not mean you are crazy. Acknowledging this fact alone will help you combat this problem. The reason why you need to understand the symptom is for you to prepare on how to combat it the best way. The symptoms usually includes breathing difficulty, sweating profusely, light headed feel, numbness of certain parts of the body, feeling weak, feels pain on chest, has difficulty in swallowing, and dry mouth. Take note that every person has different symptoms so there may be other symptoms which I failed to include but these are the common ones which has been reported by most people. This also means that it is possible for you to experience all the symptoms at once or experience just two or three of it during anxiety attacks.
Second, it is important to determine the root of your attacks. This is important as this will be the basis on how you should combat the problem. It is recommended that you reflect on your daily life and determine the situations that stress you out. Take a look if you have phobia on something or have experienced stress disorder in the past. By determining the root cause of the problem it is now easy for you to do something about it.
Third, begin changing your lifestyle. If you find out that anxiety attacks are likely to get triggered when you do presentation, then make sure that you are well-prepared for it, anticipate the possibilities and make sure that you are ready for it. Or if anxiety attacks are triggered when you do public speaking, deal with it by dealing with a couple of friends and gradually increase the number of your audience until you can finally able to talk to a large audience. Reduce caffeine intakes. Eat healthy foods and exercise often. These are effective stress reducers and will significantly decrease the number of panic attacks.
Since anxiety attack are caused by feeling threatened, it is best to do some relaxation techniques such as deep breathing. Meditation is a good way to achieve a peace of mind. Find time to relax and unwind. However, there are may be cases that are already extreme and with this you may need to go into therapy.
When panic attack strikes, make sure to use the necessary relaxation strategies. The very basic step is to do breathing exercises. Take deep breaths several times until you can feel that anxiety attack is slowly ebbing out. If you are hyperventilating, try to breathe into a paper bag to normalize the carbon dioxide in your body. While doing the breathing exercise try to form a different mental picture or think of something less stressful. You may also employ self-hypnosis which is also a very useful tool in combating panic attacks.
If you feel unable to control your panic attacks with all the tips I shared, then it is advisable to consult your doctor on how to deal with it. Whatever path you may choose, it is important to deal with your panic attacks the soonest possible time. It is the only way to get your life back.
