Starvation can work and here's the reason why. We eat so much and cram ourselves so full of food, our digestive system is always playing catch up. It's blocked up. Clogged up. It's like rush hour traffic in there since most Americans eat maybe 2 big meals each day.
Eat less or starve and you have less calories intake. Then you lose weight. Many people misconceive such sort of diets, or starvation diets. What are examples of starvation diets? Consider this scenario: A "good" breakfast is comprised of a cup of black coffee. For lunch, you try to fill up with carrots and celery sticks.
Most diet plans that are effective work by keeping your body and metabolism guessing. Doing this will keep you burning extra fat and calories while you stay healthy. One problem with weight loss diets can be loss of muscle. This can be prevented by eating the correct amount of protein and exercising to build muscle.
When you go on a starvation diet and deprive your body of the calories that it needs to function properly a couple of things happen. First, your body begins to think that you really are starving and as a result it tells your metabolism to slow down and use fewer calories throughout the day.
If you think that starving yourself is a way to drop weight fast you are right but there is a major flaw to this "diet". The flaw is that when you do start to eat again your ancient human defense systems kick in once again. After you complete the starvation diet your body starts to store more and more calories by generating more and more fat cells.
In order to loose weight you need to boost your metabolism instead of lowering it. If you have a slow metabolism you will feel sluggish but by having a faster metabolism it turns the food you eat into energy that you can use all day. This means that all those calories that are not being used for energy are being stored as fat, which is what makes you gain the weight.
Another problem of slow metabolism is that when you start eating normally again, you will gain weight faster than ever. The body will usually gain back more fat that what was originally lost, with fewer calories consumed. This is why 90% of people gain back more weight than they lost.
When you starve, you eat muscle and keep fat. Why? Well, muscle is packed full of great nutrients and allows your body to function at its best. But when you start depleting your food intake and starve your muscles you hold onto fat. Fat is a very slow burning fuel source. Your body thinks that you will not get food for a long time, so, it holds onto fat to keep you warm, and keep you functioning.
The key to retraining your body to use food properly after trying a starvation diet is to eat small amounts of food more often. When you offer your body small amounts of food at regular times, it begins to come out of the hoarding mode you have trained into it. A well-nourished constitution will then begin to utilize food, instead of storing it for later. You will find your energy levels increase and that you are no longer gaining, but maintaining your current weight.
