As the groom at a wedding you will need to prepare a speech. This can be daunting if you are nervous about public speaking as a lot of people are but if you're prepared and practiced it will be a lot easier. The wedding is your party and the speech will be your opportunity to address all of your guests.

The grooms speech will usually be delivered after the brides fathers speech and before the best man.

A traditional grooms speech at a Scottish wedding will include the much awaited 'on behalf of my wife and I'. This is always good for getting a response from the expectant crowd. As well as that it's good to start your speech with a thank you to the father of the bride for his speech. Then you will need to thank everyone who has had a hand in organizing the wedding. Also say a thank you to all of the guests for coming especially those who have traveled far to get there and a big thank you for all of the gifts you receive. You may also want to draw attention and propose a toast to friends and family who can't be with you on your day.

Another important must for the groom is thanking the bridesmaid's for their help through out the day and helping your new bride to get ready on time. Compliment them on how great they look and if you are getting them gifts then now is a good time to give them out.

Remember to offer sincere thanks to your parents and your wife's parents for help and support throughout the years and in the build up to the wedding day. At most traditional Scottish weddings gifts are presented to the Bride and Grooms Mums and Dads and it will be your responsibility to hand them out.

You will also of course want to say a few things about your beautiful new wife. You could include a story or two about how you met or proposed. This part should write itself. If you find it nerve racking giving speeches then make sure you prepare what you are going to say far in advance of the day. That way you can tweak the content and be familiar with you're material. Make sure to practice delivering your speech which should help you relax and enjoy what will be one of the best days of your life.
