Kassel is a really important city for the cultural side of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is an economic, cultural and social center of the area called Northern Hesse in central Germany.
It is quite a picturesque, diverse and forward-looking city, and the magnificent surroundings give its inhabitants as well as travelers from all the corners of the world a memorable experience. Here are some attractive characteristics of this town:
The attractive center of the town is a colorful retail and service focused center.
Commercial structures with important technology companies and appealing settlement possibilities
The comprehensive range of art modules at the University of Kassel, the classic arts school and highly qualified research center.
Numerous public and private institutions in the sport, leisure and recreation areaA cool social infrastructure, with excellent health care.
Districts with a charming historical town center, and green residential areas. And last, but not least the very rich cultural, high-quality offer of the renowned museums and the Documenta, as the largest exhibition of contemporary art, theaters and art festivals, not to mention the free, very active, Kassel art and culture scene.
Kassel is a town that has become the home of the country's most respected and most prodigious exhibition: Documenta, the beating heart of modern art. But even internationally, the Kassel Documenta is one of the first art exhibition locations in Europe. Wihelmshohe Palace is host to one of the biggest and most important collections of Rembrandt in Kassel including the renowned Apollo.
And near the town towers (which are observable from a distance), you'll find the "piece du rezistance" of the city, the Hercules Monument. This is a stupendous old construction, on top of which stands proud a tall, copper statue of the fabled demigod Heracles.
The base is a big, stone octagon and on top of it there's a tall pyramid, entirely made of stone, and on top of the pyramid there's the statue. The people of Kassel are very proud of this medieval construction, and believe me.. it's definitely worth seeing.
At the Natural History Museum, which until a certain point was the country's first theater building, visitors can find the well known works of Goethe and the world's single wooden library. Unequaled are also the Wallpaper Museum and the Museum of Sepulchral Culture. Kassel is also known for the Grimm Brothers Museum showing the creation of the renowned linguist who spent 30 years of her existence in the rural community of Fulda, where she gathered much of the fairy tales and legends in her volumes.
Kassel is located in the heart of the country, in the middle of the continent (by the way, Central European Time is calculated at this longitude). By highway or by plane, Kassel is very accessible. This is only one of the facts that make Kassel a very fashionable convention site. The Congress Palais Kassel Stadthalle, created in neoclassical style, ensures a very special ambiance.
Kassel is a really extraordinary objective for people who wish to see the world, because of the numerous features I presented in this short review. Choose this town and visit the old town district, the Hercules monument, the wonderful museums, the wooden library, the locals. You'll have a great time, guaranteed. In my view, Kassel is possibly one of the most peaceful, interesting and altogether attractive towns in the whole of Germany.
Kassel also offers excellent accommodation for tourists. See more info at Best Western Mark Hotel Kassel.
