The kind of food that's best for your dog will probably change with his or her age. Your puppy needs different size bites and has different nutritional needs than when he or she is full-grown. The most logical place to start out in the hunt for the best food for your puppy would be your vet. If the vet is really pushing hard to recommend one certain type of dog food it would probably be best to research that brand carefully. You can do that easily online and it is important that your provide the best food so your beloved pet will have a good foundation for later life.
You probably will have communicated with the vet about what type of dog food to switch to once your dog is out of the puppy stage. The same advice holds true about adult dog food: you should research the brand recommended by your vet carefully to make sure that it provides the best nutrition for your breed of dog.
Most of the dog owners we have asked give their dogs dry foods. When looking at a list of ingredients on a package of commercial dry dog food you want the first item to be meat. Chicken is usually a good choice. You don't want the food to contain too many fillers like corn because they do not provide much in the way of nutritional value for your dog. You also don't want a lot of by-products in the food.
If you have found what appears to be a good food for your adult dog be sure to consult with your vet before making any changes. We would also suggest starting out with a small package of the new food in case your dog doesn't like the taste of it and won't eat it. When making changes we always do it gradually so the dog's stomach can get used to it.
When it comes down to it, the best dog food is one that your dog enjoys eating, is nutritious, and is approved by your dog's vet. We surveyed more than 450 dog owners and asked them what brand of dog food do they give to their dogs and why. We also asked where they purchased the food and why do they shop there. The best of their answers can be found at our site (see below).
