What do wallets say about the men who carried them? A style statement? Perhaps practicality? An insight to his personality? Whatever it is, it helps to know a few things when choosing mens wallets, especially if you're giving it out as gifts. Buying wallets for men isn't the quite the same as buying them for women. A woman's wallet, or purse, can be unusually big or small which doesn't quite matter as most women have more than one (or they have different bags to store them in). For a man however, they'd prefer to just stick with one that they can carry everywhere.

So the first thing to look into when buying mens wallet would be the type of wallet. There are generally two types: tri-fold wallets and bi-fold wallets.

Tri-fold wallets fold in thirds, so there are plenty of space for credit cards and name cards while leaving enough space notes or bills. The ample room in the wallet may also prompt the user to make use of them, thus putting more items in it and cause it to bulge. Depending on the man himself, this might not be ideal (since some men prefer to put their wallets in their back pockets).

Bi-fold wallets, on the other hand, only folds in half. As compared to a tri-fold wallet, there would be less room in the wallet, though not significant enough to cause a problem. To know which type is best for the person you're buying for, take a look at his current wallet. It might just give you some insights to his preference.

Another type that you could consider are money clips wallet, which is really a folded solid piece of metal where cash and cards can be secured in between or on both side of the metals. The disadvantage to this is that it cannot hold a lot of cash or cards. But this would be suitable for men who like to travel with a slim wallet rather than a big, bulky one.

Next, you should check out the materials of the wallets.

Leather-made wallets have always been popular, whether with men or women. If your guy has a thing for leather, then maybe you would want to choose from one of these genuine leather wallets. It is has a wonderful scent from the tanning oils and chemicals used in the tanning process that many people enjoy. It is easily the most popular form of leather you will find in wallets due to its affordability; you can get most of them for under $100!

Otherwise you can always go for the non-leather wallets. These can range from wallets made of cotton, canvas, nylon, polyester and even man-made leather. Plenty of good and long-lasting wallets are made of nylon and polyesters. Non-leather wallets also give you a larger choice of color as opposed to leather wallets, which usually only come in few basic colors like black and brown.

After selecting the type and material of the wallets, you can take your time to think about the design. Most wallets for men are of plain colors without much fuss and some are simply embossed with the name or logo of the brand on the surface. A lot of this goes into the person's personal liking. It's not difficult buying wallets for men, then again, it isn't always the easiest either.
