Always try to gather more new high quality back links to your website, setting a daily target of a certain number of extra links. The great thing about the web is that you can do it all from home. That does not mean you can be anti-social. Join forums, look into twitter communities, Facebook groups, or any other online community within your area of interest. Unique design is a must. And make sure it looks at least presentable. A lot of those who submit to your directory would have been submitting sites to directories for a while now. So as you are writing copy in your website and you notice you are talking about one of your sub pages, link to that sub page with your targeted anchor text. As long as you don't spam it up, you are adding a contextual, editorial link which is of much higher value. Also check your webpage 'PageRank'. If your internal page has a 'PageRank' then you can use that to boost other internal pages by passing on the link love.
PageRank is easy to spoof by using a 301 Redirect, waiting for a Google PR update, taking down the 301 Redirect, and then selling the web site before the next Google PR update. Be sure to examine the backlinks to a web site to ensure that it deserves its PageRank.
Link Building is the key to success on the Internet. Without good, quality, inbound links your website will be perceived as non-existent by the search engines. But with a solid link building campaign, you will let the search engines know your website exists and begin to receive higher rankings, guaranteed.
