Many interviewees are more likely to dismiss the importance of thank you note after an interview.According to statistics, 1 out of 10 interviewees do not think of sending a thank you note after interview. However, you can stand out from the rest of your rivals by sending a short note to express your thanks after an interview. It does not matter if the interview is a good one or if it was a bad experience what is important is to send a thank you note to thank the interviewer for his or her time.

It is highly suggested to give your note within twenty-four hours of your interview, this way the interviewer still remember you and you may have a better chance of standing out in a sea of faces the interviewer may have seen. These notes can be sent in a hard or soft copy depending on the company you are applying to, most often it is a personal choice of what format to use.

In writing a note, you need a guideline so that you have all the relevant information you need. There are sample notes online that will be helpful to you, but basically, there are four elements in a thank you note after interview.

· Interest and Enthusiasm. A stand out note reflects your interest and enthusiasm toward the company. When doing this, it is best to be specific about what exactly brought about your enthusiasm and interest. Broad statements in a thank you note cannot help you make an impact, but recall as many things from the interview as possible and highlight them in your note.

· Unresolved Questions. It is normal that you did not fully answer some of the interview questions, or didn’t give the best response you could have. Since interview questions are answered impromptu, you are often not given the time to think. Your follow up note is your last refuge to address the questions. So, as much as possible, try to recall the unresolved issues during your interview and discuss it in your thank you note.

· Successes and Expertise. Although you already emphasized your skills, experiences, awards and accomplishments in your cover letter and resume, it is still important that you highlight your successes and expertise in your note. This will help remind the interview that you may be the best candidate for the position.

· Professionalism. A good note is not only personalized but is also written formally. To make an impact, you have to be creative while showing as much respect and professionalism as you can. Personalized means you are setting yourself apart from other candidates so be sure to let your personality shine through in your note, don’t just write a cookie cutter note that anyone could write.

Same with other formal letter, your thank you note should be proofread at least once. This assures no visible spelling or grammar errors. Moreover, check for typographical errors that you may have not noticed during the first reading. Lastly, don't forget to include your contact information in your thank you note.

Giving a thank you note after an interview is the formal and right way to thank the interviewer for taking time to give you an interview. Make sure to send the note within twenty-four hours after the interview so that you'll get noticed. Through the above-mentioned tips you'll be sure to write the best thank you note possible and make a huge impression on your interviewer.
