Take me out to the ball game! Well if you live in New York or Boston a baseball game is no joking matter, especially if the two are about to meet head to head for nine innings of pure excitement. Since April 26, 1901 the first meetings between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox the two teams have been arch rivals. It all goes back to two specific baseball seasons where the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox met in the last series of the season to determine who was going to get the league title. In 1903 it went to the Boston Red Sox and in 1949 to the New York Yankees. The teams were also in the situation of a tie in 1978 when the New York Yankees won a popular one game decider to go on for the title. As years have passed conversations about politics, money and the Boston-New York Rivalry are tip-toed around with the hopes of avoiding a heated debate.

Since their first meeting the New York Yankees have met the Boston Red Sox 2,064 times. Each time their stadiums have been hopping with screaming fans itching to watch their home team put another in the win column. With a record in the favor of the New York Yankees the Boston Red Sox and their fans come out in herds to see the New York Yankees be defeated. They wear their Red Sox Jerseys proudly and have no qualms about wearing them on Yankee soil. The New York Yankees fans are just as brutal wearing their pinstripes proudly as they visit Fenway Park.

There is some fun to the rivalry though few will admit it. It makes Red Sox vs. Yankees games something to look forward to during the regular season and a face to face meet up in the post season, well, a dream come true.

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox have met head to head in the post season games three times, twice won by the Yankees and once won by the Boston Red Sox. The rivalry has been going strong for one hundred years and as long as there is baseball the rivalry will live on.
