Successful multilevel marketers begin in a friendly way when you have disputes
As part of my book review series on 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' by Dale Carnegie today I plan to discuss chapter 4 from section 3 on 'The importance of beginning in a friendly way when you have disputes'. In particular I plan to discuss the importance of how beginning in a friendly way when you have disputes can help you successfully deploy multilevel marketing.
The best way for multilevel marketers to lose a customer is to not begin in a friendly way when they have a dispute!
When you have a dispute about something people can get quite emotional about it. The conversation can get quite heated, people's heart rate increase dramatically and tempers can explode. All because you disagree about something.
What is wrong with disagreeing with something? Life is very complex, we are all different, we are all brought up in different ways and we all live very busy lives. So why is it so surprising that we have different opinions on certain things?
When we do have differing opinions we have a tendency to take them personally.
It is ok to have a different opinion from someone else. Often there is no right or wrong, a yes or no answer because life is lot more complex than that, and unpredictable.
As mentioned above when you have a dispute people tend to get emotional. Their pride and ego gets involved which restricts their ability to back down.
You need to take the emotion away from any dispute. This is why you should always start a discussion around a dispute in a friendly way. People are expecting you to be aggressive so are prepared for this response.
But when you start the conversation off in a friendly manner you will surprise them. You will put them on the back foot and they will open up to you.
Be friendly and let them talk.
Let the person making the dispute talk, and listen attentively in a friendly way. Be sincerely concerned of their position. People like to talk about themselves and if you are providing them sincere attention they will naturally feel better about their problem.
By doing this you are taking the emotion away from the situation and laying the platform for the person to come to a compromise about their dispute. It is important to understand the dispute from their viewpoint because as mentioned above everyone is different and from their viewpoint they believe they are in the right.
You need to recognise this viewpoint and by doing this you may learn something new about the problem. People don't raise a dispute unless they have a significant reason so it is important you spend the time to truly understand their issue. And the person making the dispute will respect your effort in doing this.
Multilevel marketers need to understand their customer issues.
When multilevel marketers are faced with a dispute from one of their customers it is essential that they start the conversation in a friendly manner, and that they truly listen to their customer's issue. They need to show humility and a willingness to help address this issue because if they don't their customers will soon disappear from the business because they have lost confidence and a connection with you.
This does not mean you give in to all of their customer demands. But it means you are responsive to their customer issues and work in a friendly way in resolving them. Often your customers just want to have their concerns discussed and recognise that you may not be able to help them. But that you were willing to listen to them sincerely goes a long way.
Today I have discussed chapter 4 from section 3 on 'The importance of beginning in a friendly way when you have disputes' in the 'The How to Win Friends and Influence People' book. In particular I have discussed the importance of how beginning in a friendly way when you have disputes can help you successfully deploy multilevel marketing.
It is worth a quick watch of my video on how I used this approach when I had to influence people when I worked in the corporate world.
