Taking up Contractual Jobs? Read On

Job search may take a long time to come to an end and fall into the right hands. After pursuing the search for the right kind of job for a while, you are more or less clear about your prospects. So, when you are aware that landing with the right job may take some more time, you must not let your talent die out. Instead of getting into a low phase or feeling job search blues, do something constructive and productive meanwhile. Involve yourself, maybe, for a shorter period of time into the work you like doing and that keeps you excited. There is a large scope for contractual jobs in India, so, you may take up a short-term job as this will prove really helpful in three things:

(a) It won’t let you enter into the depressing phase which is usually commonly seen in people hunting for jobs. When you will be occupied, you won’t have the time to let your mind buzz with unnecessary negative thoughts.

(b) Your skills will only help you explore more opportunities and know your capabilities better. You will be able to retain and even boost your confidence while doing something you are fond of.

(c) Being involved into a short term or contractual project will also, of course, fetch you some monetary benefits as well. In this way, you will still be independent and earning good money without being a burden on anyone.

(d) You save on a lot of time as it further helps to add on to your bucket full of experience. Even as you are waiting for the perfect job to come across, you are nurturing your brains without wasting any time on job hunt.

Contractual jobs are, in fact, a boon to those looking for jobs in their vacations or awaiting their exam results or have been jobless for a while. It is an excellent way of being financially sound while waiting for the right job at the same time. But, before taking up these jobs on contractual basis, you should keep few things in mind. Contracts can both be a help or a reason of worsening your situation, so be careful by following the tips below:

-It is extremely important to have a written contract between you and your contractual employer. You must go through the whole contract carefully and not sign it assuming everything written would be as discussed. A contract documents the agreement and understanding between both the parties and so, it must be read to know what is to be delivered and expected, how much and when will be paid, etc.

-Don’t sign or accept the contract if you are not clear with the terms and conditions written. If you do not understand some thing or it is not as per agreed or does not clearly explain the expectations and deliverables or the consequences, you should not sign it. Ask questions and when everything is sorted and clarified, go ahead and sign the agreement or contract.

-If there is some uncertainty or evolution expected to happen during the course of work, make sure the changes and the ways of handling them are listed in the contract. Some projects may grow or expand with time according to the work done and so, ensure you are paid for the additional work you do in the later stages of completion of the contract. This too, should be noted in the document instead of it being a flat-fee assignment as this assures you are paid well for your job.

Whenever you are considering a contractual job, always go an extra mile to read and document the contract. Confirm your conversation on mails, be clear about billings and payments and have good time earning money.
