To plenty of university students, the idea of language study abroad alludes to the idea of a semester or year spent gallivanting around Europe with loads of partying thrown into the mix. It is only understandable to want to take advantage of the opportunity of study abroad to see all that one can see, and do all that one can do, during that time, but the true winners when it comes to acquiring another language just might be those that choose a less-than-popular destination.
The importance of foreign language study cannot just be confined within the linguistic abilities but also in the matter of personality development. Children who have undergone some form of foreign language training are seen to be more patient, hard working and have a healthy level of self-esteem. This is because the study of a foreign language dares them to step out of their comfort zones and to venture out to learn something that is completely new to them. And once they get that ideal sense and feeling of being able to accomplish such a feat, they are generally more confident of themselves and thus have greater faith in their own capabilities.
Most language schools offer a standard program, which usually consists of 3 or 4 hours of instruction in the morning where the student has the afternoon off. Intensive programs are also offered where 1 to 3 additional lectures are added on in the afternoon. Examination preparation courses as well as one-on-one courses round out the course program and sometimes schools offer special purpose language courses, e.g. business language etc.
You can make new friends. Speaking more than one language means that you are able to interact with a broader range of people. You can use the internet to find "email friends", connecting with people across the globe. You can also find homestay or cultural exchange programs that allow you to directly experience another culture or share yours with someone different.
Many people will not have the opportunity to relocate to a Spanish speaking country, but this does not mean that you cannot develop your Spanish to a very high level even within your own country, allowing for only a limited contact with a Spanish community and their culture, of course. However, there are many parts of the world where English speakers live alongside Spanish speakers, for example in the southern United States, and in such places it is indeed possible to get the benefit of interaction with a Spanish culture and so to develop and improve your Spanish to the point where you might end up sounding almost indistinguishable from a native speaker of the language.
This is a great resource for finding language schools in the countries that speak the language you are interested in. So if you are living in a foreign country or plan to study abroad you can easily search for a school nearby. This site has an added bonus of being able to do the search in your native language. I've seen and heard many examples where females have been attracted to males who come from an English speaking world, but know a foreign language such as Italian or Spanish. I dare say it's the same for males who are attracted to females who can speak more than one language, and this is simply because they have a slightly different skill and humans have a need for variety in life.
First of all, many countries in Europe and Asia are much smaller than the U.S. and yet the neighboring country speaks a completely different language. They must learn that language if they want to go their and communicate. America is quite large and most people don't find it necessary to learn another language. Now that we are becoming more globalized, it is more important that we begin to learn other languages. If I wanted to go to Italy to visit, it would be very difficult for me to get around if I don't know a word of Italian, especially if I don't even have a phrasebook or dictionary.
