Red Fort in Delhi is one of the most famous monuments declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It stands as a powerful reminder of mughal kingdoms. Built in red sand stone by Emperor Shah Jahan it is noted for its architectural excellence. Popular as Lal Quila, the masterpiece of Red Fort attracts a big crowd from different parts of India and world. The fort complex houses many beautiful architectural structures like Diwan-I-Am, Diwan-I-Khas, Moti Masjid, Museum, and Shahi Burj.
The India Gate is located on the ceremonial avenue, the Rajpath. It is the 42 meter high impressive war memorial monument. It was built in the commemoration of 90000 warriors who laid down their lives during the First World War. Originally called All India War Memorial, India Gate has been today one of the most visited tourist attractions in Delhi. It is a popular relaxation area during the summer evenings with lush and beautiful parks in surroundings.
The Qutub Minar, the longest brick & stone minaret in the world, is a mammoth tower that was built between 1193 and 1369 as epitome of Islamic Rule over Delhi. The Qutub Minar with its complex has been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an incredible example of early Indo–Islamic architecture. It has five distinct stories, and is enclosed with elaborate carvings and verses from the holy Quran.
Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi is one another UNSECO World Heritage Site in the City. It is said the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra has been inspired by the Humayun’s Tomb. In many ways this beautiful tomb monument is as impressive as the Taj Mahal in Agra. This beautiful garden tomb is a memorial monument by a sorrowful widow wife, Hamida Begum, the wife of Humayun. The magnificence of this impressive memorial becomes overwhelming on entering through the superior double storey gateway.
Akshardham Temple (the Largest Hindu Temple Complex in the world), Lotus Temple (one of the Seven Wonders of India), Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple), Rashtrapati Bhawan (President House), Safdarjang’s Tomb, Chandani Chowk, Old Fort, Lodhi Gardens, etc are some other popular tourist attractions which you will love to visit and explore on your Delhi tours to India.
