Teenagers only make up 7 percent of the driving populace but they are involved in 14 percent of traffic accidents resulting to deaths. Teenagers can be dangerous drivers. They are inexperienced, risky, vulnerable, and can be impulsive at times. Studies show that traffic fatality is the leading cause of deaths among teens in North America. One out of four teens will also get into traffic collision within the first 24 months as drivers. Staying up late at night is one of many teenager characteristics that puts them at a high risk of motor vehicle accidents due to drowsiness.
There are a number of factors that causes fatality to teenagers. Immaturity is one of the contributing factors to high rates vehicular accidents among teenagers. Some examples of these are tailgating and not using of seat belts.
Impact Teen Drivers is an ongoing educational program for teenage drivers which released a national educational campaign through the support of California Casualty. This campaigns include a new contest, Create Real IMPACT, classroom materials, lesson plans, and videos.
As a public awareness and educational program which focuses on reckless driving, Impact Teen Drivers created the Create Real IMPACT contest that allows teens to create a message about being safe inside behind the wheel.
However, public awareness and educational programs like these are not enough to make sure that teens can get out safe of their cars every time. There is a self-installed device called Safe Driving Monitor which records and displays speed, distance, and sudden braking data in every trip. With this device, parents can now check and review their child's driving activities whenever they come home.
Another way to ensure your child's safety is through purchasing an insurance. Although teen drivers' parents pay the highest premiums of any driver category, parents can feel safer with an insurance policy on-hand. This also help in making them feel that if their child met an accident, there is somewhere they can run into.
