Occurrence of hair damage is guaranteed whether or not you subject your hair to it. Hair damage is a natural process. If you do not take care of your hair damage, it may result into more damage as compared to those who do take care. There is a whole aisle in the supermarket and a lot of products to choose from in the drugstore that can treat and repair damaged hair. These claims may not be all true, so you may want to be careful when buying and using hair products. For example, split-ends cannot be repaired by using a treatment shampoo or hair product that claim to do so, because simply having a trim can solve your problem. These hair products can provide nutrients to replenish the hair strands, but until you cut off the damaged parts and split-ends, you will not be able to get rid of them at all.

Heat damage from styling appliances strips hair of moisture, hydration and nutrients. Think of it as "frying" your hair. Flat irons that lack heat control or that use metal plates can tear, rip and destroy the protein body structure that gives your hair control and body. Microscopic inspection of damaged hair shows hair exposed to excess heat can have cuticle damage, trauma (split ends), and fractures. The loss of moisture weakens the shaft leaving the hair prone to breaking, infection, twisting, and in mores severe cases, localized thinning or loss.Don't mangle your hair by brushing it when wet. Instead, comb it with a wide-tooth comb. Work out tangles as you move from the ends toward the scalp. Don't over dry - leave some moisture in to prevent static. Use care when styling. Your hair will be better-off if you don't use styling appliances; but if you must, don't let your hair get too hot and avoid aggressive manipulation of your hair.

Flakiness is never attractive, but in hair it's very treatable. Dandruff is caused by excess sebum, or oil, on the scalp. Your scalp is constantly shedding dead skin cells, which normally get washed away. The scalp also hosts a fungus called pityrosporum ovale, which lives in the skin. Normally, the levels of this fungus are too low to do anything. But when the scalp produces excess sebum, these yeast0like organisms proliferate, inflaming hair follicles and accelerating the shedding of dead skin cells, which fall of in large, oily flakes.Look for products that provide antioxidants that help relieve destruction of follicle cell membranes from free radicals, such as UV rays and pollution. Botanicals such as Aloe, Chamomile and other herbal and plant extracts are important as they help to improve the moisture level necessary for fullness, shine, and body.

One way on how to reduce hair damage from flat iron is by keeping your hair dry and free from any gel or mousse build-up. It should be noted that damp hair does not respond well with most styling tools, especially those utilizing heat. Do you know the cooking method of steaming? This is probably the closest scenario for what will happen when an electronic hair iron touches a damp hair.
