Time management is an old theory but in reality there is nothing called time management. Time management in real is self management. You can not manage time but you can manage the use of time. Thus management skills are really essential in managing the hectic schedules of our lives.
Now-a-days companies employ fewer workers and expect them to work harder. But the key is to work harder but with that you have to work smarter and for that you need to learn how to manage time at work.
Tips for Office Employees
First you need to set your goals. Decide what is more important for you in the long run and set your goals accordingly. You should plan your annual, monthly and weekly work beforehand but be ready to be flexible whenever needed.
Secondly you need to prioritize your goals. You should set your work according to importance and keep a specific time for completing them. Do not engage yourself in any other work at that particular time.
Thirdly it is important to analyze your time efficiently. Do not do works which seem to be important as these do not help you in any way to get your goals.
Fourthly keep some time off for unforeseeable works. You never know when all of a sudden there is an emergency occurs in office or your private life.
Fifthly avoid detractors. Picking up phones is a time-killing habit while you are working. You can always answer them or call them back when you are finished with your work. Office colleagues and visitors often come to gossip and take advice but you can always tell them that you are busy and will be with them as soon as you are free. Avoid unnecessary meetings as best as possible.
Lastly you should know that it is not possible to do all the work alone. So there is no harm to distribute the work. But this distribution should be proper. You should make them understand the task properly and explain clearly what you want from them.
Tips for Freelancers
Online time management is important for freelancers. There are quite a few online time management tools available for freelancers.
Online calendar is an essential tool for freelancers. You do not need wait to enter a reminder if you have an online calendar.
Contact management tool not only stores contact details but also can store notes for each contact, tasks to be done etc.
To-do list tools are also very helpful in storing data.
Project management tools are very important as they can store huge amount of data that to-do list tools alone can not. You can have pages for each project which you can share and add files and images with the help of this tool.
