It seems that when it comes to being an executive, some ideas should be already understood. For instance, people should understand that you’ve worked very hard to get to where you are in life. Also, people should understand that you intend to continue your journey in the same direction as you have for many years.
You would also think that people would understand that you are a visionary; however, when writing your resume, this may not always be understood, which is why you may have to spell it out. If you’re not sure how to get this done, here are some tips to help your executive resume scream that you’re a visionary.
Show the Big Picture
Probably one of the biggest ways to show a future employer that you are indeed a visionary is to illustrate that you understand the big picture. This means, not only do you understand the short-term goals that a company wants to accomplish, but you also know how to move the company in a new direction based on your vision.
So how can you get this done? Probably one of the better ways to bring this message across is to bring out your biggest accomplishments for each company you’ve worked for then tell how you made the accomplishment from beginning to end.
Believe it or not, this can be done in a few short sentences per accomplishment as long as you add the details from the number of people you managed, the amount of money earned, the number of clients you brought in, or any other details that would provide a bigger and better picture of the story you’re trying to tell.
Bring Up Various Challenges Throughout
Another trick to consider is bringing up challenges that you face as an executive throughout your resume. In other words, it’s a good idea to bring up the issues you were forced to confront and also what you did to produce successful outcomes.
By taking this route, you could give a hiring manager a better idea of how innovative an executive you have been. Whether you were able to fix a broken department, or make a huge change to the company as a whole, it’s good to make sure that you give specific examples of what you were able to do to help showcase your abilities as a visionary.
Show You Know What’s Going on with the Company
If you really want to entice a company, you can let them know that you understand its vision in your resume. This of course requires a good amount of research because you’re going to need to know how the company got to the point it’s at now and what it may need to take it to the next level.
Much of this work can be done in your cover letter, but in order to illustrate it in your resume you can make sure to bring up examples of accomplishments from your past that speak to the goals of the company in the present.
Letting a company know that you are indeed a visionary is one of the greatest ways to exemplify your ability take a company to the next level. So as you prepare your resume and other application documents, don’t forget to showcase what a visionary you are.
