In the Computer Age a number of problems have been encountered by Silicon

Valley residents. The City and Suburban citizens are being subject to new

stresses in response to the growth of the Computer software and Technology

Industry. Finding adequate childcare has become increasingly difficult in the bay area.

Population Increase In all the metropolitan and suburban areas of the East

and West bay, Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley have made finding services

such as childcare difficult. Three Silicon Valley businesspersons faced with

this problem came up with an Innovative solution. Out of their frustrations

with the usual time, consuming methods of finding good day care for their own

a child has a new concept embodied in their company, DayCare Video.

They had experienced the time consuming experience of looking for it for

their own children. They had looked for it individually, going to many

different homes and centers. One day he and his friends sitting around

talking about their problems decided collectively there must be a better way.

In the discussion of solutions, it was confirmed that the available

technologies were not being efficiently used to eliminate the time consuming

process of having to go from one childcare provider to another. They believed

that it would be much more efficient if parents who were busy professionals

could go to one location and view slides or videos of available childcare

providers. The team believed that if local childcare providers could be

presented this way, parents could then have an opportunity to select those

specific providers they felt could meet their requirements. This would give

them an immense break of time and expense from having to phone, drive and

interview providers all over the East, West and South Bay areas. Richard,

Howard and Scott took their idea and have made it into a practical business.

DayCare Video will look to have an extensive and growing list of area

childcare providers on videotape. Subscribers to their service can make an

appointment with them and have them come to your home or business and show

you videos of the providers. These videos show facilities locations, give

information on programs and discuss the philosophy of the different services

DayCare Video answers questions and makes referrals to those childcare

providers that their clients are interested in.

This service has proven itself very popular with the more progressive

employers. They have been signing contracts with Day Care Video to make them

part of their employee benefit package. Employers find that this is a very

popular part of the packages for new employees who come from other cities and

areas. Many employees coming to the area with their families use this service

for its cost effectiveness. Established employees starting new families find

it very useful for locating services. This benefit also helps the employer by

reducing the amount of time employees are away from the work place finding

childcare services. Lost man-hour's can seriously affect the efficiency of

companies. Using DayCare Video's services can be one of the ways in which

employers can reduce employee absenteeism. Contracting the services of

DayCare Video gives the employer a progressive image, one that enhances its

stature, in an era where employees through their unions and other

organizations like the National Organization for Women have emphasized

employers to be more responsiveness to the childcare problem.

Richard Robinson, DayCare Video's founder states "We don't want to compete

with established childcare providers, we want to enhance the field by

offering a service that makes the selection of childcare a more informed and

efficient process".
