If you have ever experienced an infestation of Fleas and Ticks, then you know how important it is to eradicate them as quickly as possible for both you and your pets. Simply treating your backyard will not complete the job if you do not follow through with a complete treatment of your house and pets. Most generally people will treat their pets and expect the fleas and ticks to disappear, others will include the treatments to their houses and be shocked when the fleas and ticks slowly but surely always return. To gain control of the infestation it must be a three pronged approach with follow-up. A flea and tick yard control plan is an essential part to gaining control and cannot and should not be overlooked.
Once you know the difference between indoor and outdoor flea and tick control products you will be well on your way to total control. Products suitable for indoor use may not and generally are not suitable for outdoor control. If you love the outdoors and the animal life the lives there you will want to keep them in mind when considering your approach to eliminating your flea and tick problem. Try to avoid toxic chemicals when treating your yards and lawns. Most generally they will only kill the fleas and ticks that are present at the time of application, no the underlying problem. Toxic chemicals are extremely harmful to animals, birds and some plant life. Toxic chemicals can be washed off during rains and end up in rivers and streams causing even more harm to living creatures. Please remember to read labels carefully before you buy.
Look for "Natural" outdoor flea and tick killers if possible. Two great ones are Diatomaceous Earth (DE) or the use of live Nematodes. You will find that not only are they both economical they are environmentally friendly yard flea and tick killers.
If given a choice between a natural treatment and a toxic treatment I would choose a natural treatment whenever possible. Compare your choices and choose the best for your individual situation. Finding the pros and cons of natural verses toxic treatments has never been easier with the use of the Internet.
First you will have to prepare your yard before you apply your treatment. This will ensure you end up with a flea and tick free yard. Most generally this involves clearing your yard of debris and lawn furniture. Mowing your grass and weed eating all tall grass along fences, building and sidewalk cracks. Make sure that all your pets and other animals are not present when applying. Please remember after you have bought the treatment you are going to use read the directions and warnings before you apply. These directions and warnings are there for a reason.
Now that you have taken care of the outdoors you can successfully remove them from your house and pets for good. Living in a Flea and Tick free environment is a wonderful feeling for both you and your pets.
