How to cope with difficult people at work who are depressed

There are a lot of depressed people in the world, and you might end up working with one. They will begin to disrupt your life at work. You may not be able to focus on the work because you are focusing on them. You may find also that you will begin to lose focus on their duties and life and they will disrupt your lives for their lack of ability to work. When it comes to dealing with depressed people there are several things that you can do.

First, you can let it go. They really don't want to talk about it, so don't ask. They really just want you to forget about it, so do that for them. You should block out their depression by trying to carry on by doing your everyday things. If the depression is not making your life difficult you shouldn't worry about it. Mention it to your manager and they will watch and take care of the situation if they happen to notice a slip on their account. This way you can stop them from affecting your work before it happens. Sometimes you will find that their depression is going to get the best of them and you. You may become irritable because you are always dealing with their problems. However, you may want to try to avoid them, if you can possibly do so.

There are lots of co-workers that you are going to deal with. There are going to be team members that don't necessarily affect you, but they affect the team as a whole. Most of the time, you don't have to have total contact with all of the members of your team. You will be able to control your interaction. However, it may be the isolation that has made them feel worse. There are things that people do and don't do that affect someone so deeply, that most of the time, we are unaware of the affects that we have on people. You may want to limit your interaction or you may want to increase your interaction levels by trying to make small town everyday. When you try to make small talk you will be able to possibly make them feel better about themselves and even more important.

If you don't want to ignore it or deal with it yourself, you may want to get a group together. When you get the group together you will find strength in numbers. It's like an intervention. When others are able to tell someone how they feel about them can be very powerful and persuading. Sometimes it takes a group to get the message across. This is one way that you can tell someone how you feel without feeling like you are alone. With the support of others you will feel confident to talk to the person about their depression.
