This is a difficult question to answer. Content does not directly affect page rank, back links do. That is the number of links you might have on other sites that direct readers to your site.

A site that has 2000 backward links or links that point back to it from pages that rank from 1 to 6 is likely to have a higher page rank than a site with only a hundred back links.

In other words, the more back links you have from pages that have a higher page rank than yours the higher your page rank will go.

But here is the crux of the matter. A site will not be willing to give you a back link unless you have good content. And there is another element that affects your ranking in Google. Google now has the ability to tell how long a reader is on your site.

If you don’t have good content you won’t be able to keep the reader interested in your site. Then your site will not be as popular. If your site is not popular you won’t be able to get good back links.

What are we getting at?

Page rank and ranking in the search engines is not dependent on any one factor.

It is a combination of all the good elements of SEO that get you a high page rank. The following is what you need to get a good PR.

1.Back links are directly related to PR – The more quality back links from other sites that are relevant to your material the better PR you will get.

2.To gain back links you need to write content and place it on directories that will give you back links or ask other webmasters if you can do a review of their product in exchange for a back link.

3.The content of your web page needs to be good to keep your audience interested and so you can get a better ranking in the search engines because of your page rank, your back links and the popularity of your website which crates more back links.

Does the above information answer the question about whether web content is important in page rank? The answer then is no and yes. No because it is not directly related, as we have established back links are what create page rank, but yes it does affect page rank, because without good content we cant get good back links.

Why are back links and web page popularity so important?

Google can tell how long a reader remains on a site, and the more readers you have, the more popular your site is. The more popular your site is the better ranking in the search engine you will have. The better ranking you have in the search engine, the more other sites will ask you for back links.

Sounds easy don’t it!

Well, in theory it is easy, but practicing it takes time and dedication, research and work, lots of work!

For example let’s say you have a website that sells cars, but someone wants information about car warranties. Would this person be targeted by your site? But if you had created a page that would have targeted his issue in some way, the person would have stayed on your site for a bit longer, and you would have gained some popularity with this type of reader, giving you more popularity on the web.
