Thinking about building a website but your coding skills aren't top notch? The tutorials on Dreamweaver Made Simple are brilliant for learning how to code but there are other ways to build a site. Wordpress and Joomla are two content management systems that don't need any previous coding experience to use. Once installed onto your web server you can use their in built admin sections to upload content to your website. Learning how to code is a tough process especially if it's your first language. Fully understanding theory such as syntax isn't easy. If you find yourself in this situation then check out Joomla and Wordpress first.

Pre built content management systems are a substitute from coding from scratch. Wordpress has it's advantages and it is mainly used for blogging purposes. You can choose the design you want from customizable themes with tonnes available to choose from. Also with a button click you can add widgets to your webpage to display your twitter feed or a list of tags you've put in your posts. Another worthwhile choice is Joomla, especially if you're looking to do more than just blog. It's a tool more frequently used for organizations' websites and provides more than just blog content with the ability to integrate ecommerce systems and communication tools too.

So with all these benefits you've got to be thinking why use Dreamweaver at all? What are the drawbacks of using these online tools? Room for creativity and originality is lacking when using a template. The ability to mould your site in anyway you want to can only be taken advantage of when coding from scratch. Also if you want to build something very simple then you might not even require all the extra functionality that Joomla and Wordpress provide. Some templates are very recognizable and if the website is for a company then brand recognition needs to be an issue. A organization's credibility could be compromised. Personal use however, this is not so much of an issue.

So lets think about your knowledge of code and what the top option is for you. You need to think about exactly what your trying to create. For blogging, Wordpress is the number one choice. Joomla is great for company sites but you need to think about the site's complexity. If you're just trying to get basic information across (text, images etc.) then Dreamweaver is a worthwhile option. With a small knowledge of coding you can put together something original quite speedily. However if your site requires something as complex as an ecommerce system then you're going to require some serious knowledge of many different types of coding. Anything where people's money is involved is advanced stuff and if done incorrectly could put your site at risk from hacking or even break laws. If Joomla supplies ready-made tried and tested code then it will probably be the better option.

You need to be aware of the skills you have when embarking on any new project. Look back to the things you've made previously and compare them to the project you are about to undertake to find the best way to go. There are great advantages to coding from scratch but it can be time consuming and tricky. Research into all your options will help no end in constructing the perfect website for you.
