Everyone is aware of how nice and relaxing it is to sit next to a gently flowing mountain stream. Unfortunately, few of us live near a mountain stream so we are left to seek our relaxation from other means. Fortunately, there are other ways to enjoy the calming and soothing effects of gently flowing water in and around our home. Many people have some type of water feature in their outdoor garden areas and now, thanks to modern technology, we can have water features indoors without having to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Tabletop Fountains are simple in their operation and add a sense of ambiance to our homes that cannot be achieved with any other feature.

A tabletop fountain operates much like there large cousins that you find located in many downtown plazas and hotel lobbies but on a much smaller scale of course. The fountains consist of some type basin to contain the water, a pump to continually circulate the water, and a water way to direct the water in such a way that provides the attraction as it falls or flows back into the basin. It is also apparent with these smaller units that their installation is a much simpler process. Setup can be accomplished in a matter of minutes and very few, if any, tools are necessary. A pitcher of water and access to an electrical receptacle and your tabletop water fountain will be up and running.

Another great benefit of these tabletop fountains is the fact that you do not have a permanent installation so you can relocate your fountain anytime you desire. If you are having an outdoor party and would like a great center piece for a food serving table, just unplug the fountain and, carry it outside, plug it in and you now have a great party feature. Being able to move the fountain to different locations within your home will make it seem as if you have several different fountains in different rooms at any given time.

These small fountains come in a variety of different types and styles and are available to meet most any budget, no matter how small. They are made utilizing urns, bamboo, waterfalls, rocks, stones and most anything else you can imagine. Their design is actually so simple that if you cannot locate the exact look you are seeking, you can even design and build your own by purchasing the pump and tubing and utilizing some container and other materials you may already own.

Tabletop fountains are also very low maintenance water features since they are so small and easily accessible. Since the units are entirely self-contained, no water supply is necessary but you will occasionally need to add a little water to compensate for evaporation. You should also empty the catch basin periodically and replenish the unit with a fresh supply of water so any contaminates that may have found their way into the basin does not enter and clog the pumping mechanism. Outside of these minor inconveniences, your fountain will supply you with hours of enjoyment with little attention required on your part. You will be hard pressed to find another amenity around your home that relaxes you more with any less maintenance or attention.
