What make them so desired coating on wooden furniture is their clear finish and ability to bring attractiveness in the appearance. The beauty of French polish is just unmatchable because the coating given by it is very thin. Subsequently, it brings out a transparent and crystal clear visual impact to the natural grainy effect of furniture. Varnishes and lacquers can hardly match that level.
French polish-based on shellac, is not a new concept. It was discovered in the 18th century by the French Martin brothers in England. Heat, liquids, excessive exposure to sunlight and accidental spillage of alcohol are few of such conditions that tend to affect its shine. Though, it is not considered as major drawback as re-polishing is a very simple process to get that fantastic shine back within no time.
However, consulting professionals for any kind of major polishing job is highly suggested. This is due to the fact that application of French polish should be in right amount for the required output.
