Did you ever encountered a terrible gout attack? Well, I did and that is precisely the important reason why I selected this topic on my next health article. Gout could be prevented and this is exactly what my doctor is telling me. But how exactly are we going to do that? Let me share with you some tips I discovered on my recent online investigation results.
Actually you can get hundreds of them and I did not have any difficulty in searching for the information. Let us start with the meaning of purines. Purines are food nutrients present in many foods, especially from organ meats, mackerel and sardines.
I never thought some fish could cause gout and be considered the reason how I got stricken with gout 3 months ago. Purines contain about 15 percent uric acid found in our body. Now I know too much uric acid could cause gout definitely.
For this reason it is very crucial to know what are the foods that have purines. At least we will know how to control our food diet. On the other hand, learning what kinds of foods to prevent is not good enough since you could suffer from lack of vitamins later on. I was lucky enough to find a diet food table that guide us on what amount is advised for each type of food we normally takes.
What are the foods that we should avoid? These are generally high protein foods from animal organs such as liver, kidney, heart, brains, meats. Try to keep away from also anchovies, mackerel, scallops and mussels. Try to refrain from eating fatty and oily foods. Avoid soup with meat extracts and excessive beef stock.
The next batch are the foods that we can eat with moderation. This is a very good news for me. I think I can not get by eating purely vegetables and fruits. The recommended amount of food we could eat is two third cup of oatmeal daily, one fourth cup of rice and limited wheat bran and wheat germ. There are sets of vegetables that need moderation too. Limit to one half cup of asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms and green peas. We are allowed to eat 2 to 3 ounces of white meat like chicken breast, fish and shellfish. We can eat one cup of dried peas or beans as an option for our body protein requirements. The final set are the foods that contain low purine. These are breads and cereals, fruits, most vegetables, eggs, peanut butter, milk and milk products, vegetable soup, sugar syrup, potatoes, and herbs and spices.
To summarize, if we follow a reduced purine food diet, we can stay away from a gout attack. By controlling the uric acid we may also prevent arthritis or rheumatism. An effective diet program can avoid us from suffering these health problems.
