The Mediterranean has long been our number one spot for our summer holidays, but this trend may be on the change in the coming years. Make way for the ‘Mett’, or rather Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Turkey. By summer 2012, 4 in 10 holiday makers from the UK are expected to visit the Mett instead of the usual Costa del Sol and Corfu. But what makes these destinations so appealing? Read on, pack your bags, do your money exchange, and head off to one of these up-and-coming holiday locations.

Morocco

Morocco is set to become more popular in the coming years, probably due to having some of the best beaches in North Africa. The Atlantic currents should be treated with caution, but the beaches are slightly more exotic than Blackpool. Here you can have a camel safari if you’ve tired of resting on the sand. Marrakesh is a great excursion if you want to experience the tastes and smells of Morocco; make sure to visit the central square at night for the real excitement.

Egypt

Egypt is awash with gorgeous beaches and stunning coral reefs. This alone is enough to make it one of the up-and-coming destinations of the Mett. Aside from this, there are plenty of tourist attractions, new and old. Whether your interests lie in mighty temples or nightclub Mecca’s, Egypt will have something for you. Just remember your suntan lotion and Egypt pounds

Tunisia

Tunisia is a great country if you like to combine the typical beach experience with other excursions. One of the best here is a trip to the Sahara Desert. It is recommended to have a guide if you are going off-road here, as the desert is very unforgiving. However, you can also opt to go on a desert safari if you want to leave the driving up to someone else. And when you do get a moment to explore the beaches, you certainly won’t be disappointed; beautiful stretches of sand make their way into the blue sea.

Turkey

It’s not hard to see why Turkey is expected to be the most popular of all of the Mett destinations; gorgeous scenery, endless sunshine, and lots to keep you entertained. For those who enjoy boozy merriment, Marmaris might be the spot for you. There are lots of bars and restaurants open until the wee hours; and you can always take a boat trip to the Dalyan mud baths if you want a detox after a heavy week.
