Tamanu oil comes from the tree, calophyllum inophyllum found in the islands of the South Pacific. This tree grows up to 25 or even 30 meters in height, with long, spreading limbs. Its branches are covered with shiny, dark green oval shaped leaves, and has small, sweet fragranced white flowers with a yellow center. Its fruit is the size of an apricot, with a thin flesh and a large nut hull inside.

Kernels, inside the fruit, are removed, dried on a rack, for approximately one month and begin to turn deep chocolate brown in color. They develop a sticky type of substance with a fragrance, similar to butter pecan ice cream. The dark green substance is then pressed from the kernels, resulting in luxurious, rich and thick tamanu oil.

Tamanu oil is great for treating lots of skin issues including: eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, cracked skin, scars, acne, stretch marks and more. It has helped to relieve the pain of chemical burns, shingles, rheumatism, sciatica, neuralgia, pulled ligaments, sore muscles or sprains, and much more. This natural substance contains anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Tamanu oil is used in a variety of skin care products including: soap, lotion, cream, ointment and more A nutty aroma is, quickly, absorbed into the skin with no greasy or oily residue. Skin feels soft and dewy, without a glossy tint.

It is ideal for use in making homemade soap, lotion, cream, ointment or other cosmetic products. It can, also, be directly applied to the skin from a roll on dispenser! Caution should be heeded, though, to those with allergies to nuts, since its adverse affects are unknown.
