An anger management group is all but indispensable in getting you sorted out if you are serious about getting help with anger. It is fundamental in emotional change that you do not overcome anger problems alone. You need the help of people who have experienced where you are. Even if your problem is you can't be alone, you are going to get help from other people who were once afraid of what you are afraid of and have found a way to overcome the fear and are now comfortable and relaxed.
Because the others in the group will keep you honest, anger management groups are one of the best ways to get help with change. People can lie to themselves. We do it all the time and act as if we are improving when we really aren't. We go around talking about how we want to change. We sit and read every book in sight on anger, but we are experts at avoiding the real issues. We know that our real fears are buried deep inside us, and we look for ways to avoid them so that we don't face ourselves. Anger management groups help us around this, and make us honest as the people there can easily see lies and this makes it much harder to continue the same behavior.
Controlling behavior is another thing we see again and again in anger management groups. Angry people often try to find relationships where they can control others. They would even use money and manipulation to try to do this. They struggle with anger issues and if they don't get what they want their relationships with their children and their marriages can suffer because of it.

But because their problem is too big to evade, they often stay by the group and, if they are lucky they hear something and what they hear is able to make a breakthrough where they can see their bad behavior up close.
Therapists are trained to get people to see their behavior in ways that they can't see by themselves. There are huge differences between a person who is a "control freak" and a person who isn't and can let go. Other people help us with this and this is why anger management groups are now so successful.
