Manchester’s big splash
Great Salford Swim - 26th September 2010
The Great Salford Swim is the latest in what’s on in Manchester. The new event for the 2010 sporting calendar in Manchester is a one-mile outdoor swim taking place in Salford Quays, one of Manchester’s most popular attractions. The event is open to swimmers of all abilities (but only for the brave!)
It’s promising to be a really fun event but you must take the time to train properly. You wouldn’t run 10k without any training so don’t swim a mile!
It’s also probably worth hiring a wetsuit for the day, however it’s not compulsory (unless the water temperature drops below 15c) but wetsuits can make you more buoyant and actually a little bit faster.
Most people taking part will not have swum outdoors before so you won’t be alone. Just make sure you can complete a mile confidently in the pool before taking part in the competition. Don’t be fazed though; it’s not just aimed at professional swimmers - it’s for everyone serious about taking part and serious about training. So this may mean cutting out a few nights at the night clubs and bars in Manchester!
The swim is open to people all over the UK and with many hotels in the Manchester city area only a stone’s throw away it’s easy and practical for visitors to attend.
In other news, Proms in the Park heading to Manchester – 11th September 2010
Salford’s Buile Hill Park is set to stage BBC’s 116th ‘Proms in the Park’, the largest classical music festival on Saturday 11th September 2010.
One of Manchester’s hottest gigs, each show is centered around a live convert. Mums’ favorite John Barrowman is headlining the event, well-known for his role as Captain Jack in Torchwood and Doctor Who. John started his career as a leading man in West End musicals and has appeared in Chicago, Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon. John will be joined by world class mezzo soprano Juliette Pochin and local boy, Salford opera sensation, Jon Christos.
The event is likely to the one of Manchester main attractions this year and there is likely to be a positive impact on the hotels in Manchester city centre too.
Tickets are still available for the event priced at £20.00.
