It might seem a bit of a scary task to have a tiara created especially for you particularly because you won’t know exactly what the finished piece will look like, so I decided I would give you some background information and things to think about as a starting point.

Since your face shape should be taken into account when you choose your tiara height, follow these simple guidelines and you can’t go wrong. If you have a long face you should opt for a wedding tiara that’s 3 cm high or less. If your face is round then choose a bigger tiara. Wedding tiaras that are 5cm or higher help to elongate the face making it look thinner. If you’ve got an oval face then you can get away with any height of bridal tiara, lucky you.

Your wedding tiara should go with any embellishments on your wedding dress for example if you have pearls decorating your wedding dress you should have pearls in your wedding tiara too. This helps tie the dress and the tiara together.

Generally you should stick to the same metal colour for your wedding tiara that you normally wear on a daily basis, so if silver’s your preferred metal then choose a silver coloured tiara. The only exception to this is if you have metal coloured embellishments on your bridal dress.

For your dream wedding tiara to become physical instead of just an idea in your mind you need to be able to convey your thoughts to your tiara designer. One way to do this is collect pictures of designs that are similar and then clearly identify the differences between these pictures and your dream bridal tiara.. There is also the added benefit of being able to show your unique style. If you already have a good idea of what you want your tiara to look like then do a rough sketch of it so you can scan and email it your designer. I’ve had many brides who have emailed me a drawing and we’ve worked on it together to create something perfect for them which won’t collapse under its own weight, it’s a very satisfying experience for both of us.

Within the UK purchasing made over the internet are protected by the distance selling regulations which give you 7 days to change your mind and ask for a refund but custom made items where there is a choice of specifications such as crystal, pearl and metal colour are excluded from the 7 day cancellation policy. Bespoke wedding tiaras come under that exclusion but not all tiara designers will make you aware of this before they start creating your product, so if in doubt over their refund policy and it’s not clearly stated on the website – ASK, actually if it’s not stated on the website, find another tiara designer!

There are questions you should ask your tiara designer before any money changes hands; I’ve listed a few of these below.

How long will it take from deigning it to completion?

Your tiara designer should be able to give you a proper time frame when making your tiara That way you’ll know when your wedding tiara is due to arrive and can chase with the postal system if it's delayed or lost.

Will my wedding tiara be insured when it's posted?

The chances are that your tiara will be posted so check whether it will be insured in transit, if it isn’t clear check whether insurance is included with the price of postage and packaging.

What happens if it gets damaged in the post?

Find out who’s responsibility it is for making a claim if your bridal tiara gets damaged in the post before making any payments.

How do I position my wedding tiara?

I can think of at least 5 different positions a wedding tiara can be worn on the head and I’ve written a blog post about it. You can find at Wedding And Gems.

I hope I’ve given you an idea of the things you will need to think about when working with a wedding tiara designer to make your dream wedding tiara but if not you can always contact me to ask more questions at Wedding And Gems.
