  1. Carefully and methodically choose the business you wish to start

When it comes to making this decision, you must be very careful. Don't choose an industry simply because you think it is going to make you money. You have to make sure that the industry you choose is one that you love. The end goal is to make your business a hobby of yours that also mirrors as a living. The one leads into the other; it's not the other way around.

Choosing a business in an industry that you are passionate about will, without a doubt, lead to more money that you would have made going into a business simply for the revenue potential. If you hate the business you begin and are doing it for reasons such as you heard a friend made money in the industry, it is almost a guarantee that you will not work hard and not succeed. It's just a fact.

  1. Pick a good website format, drive visitors and ensure a low bounce rate

Pick a good website format - your website should be geared towards informing the visitor about two things: your industry via articles and having a factual description of your services with little promotional lingo. Don't say your services are "the best in the world," etc. Instead use words like "effective." The sound more intelligent and don't scream to the visitor that they are getting sold on your product or service. Instead, the visitor should feel as if they are getting informed.

Drive visitors to your website - this can be done via two effective and proven methods. Either you, (this doesn't mean outsourcing SEO because it doesn't work) learn search engine optimization very well or have a PPC (acronym of pay per click) campaign that is executed flawlessly. You can also do both.

To give a brief description for the beginner, pay per click campaigns are the websites that show up on the top upon doing a Google search. You can tell the firms that are doing these advertising campaigns because the top listings have a different shade of color than the rest of the website results. Bing and Yahoo have similar types of ad formats, however this is not something you should be focusing your time on.

Ensure a low bounce rate - this is the most important of the three. A "bounce" by definition, is when somebody comes to your website, then immediately clicks back. As a new business owner, this is key. Again, to reiterate what was just mentioned above, make sure that your site does yell, "I'm selling something or buy my service!"

People are sold products all day long; they are cold-called, they get junk email from all around the world and with the web, they seemingly cannot get away from companies or people who are trying to sell, sell, sell. Change the tone, and you'll witness amazing results and, not to mention, get a leg-up on your competition.
