The only thing worse than going through depression is being in a relationship with someone who is showing signs of relationship depression. It can be torment to see them go through this period in their life. There never seems to be any end to it and as it wears on both parties many relationships because of it.

Depression makes people think irrationally and causes them to be blind to the good things in life, like you. Their attitude towards everything you do to make them feel better will make you feel like you are wasting your time. Don't give up because even though it seems futile you are actually making progress in most cases.

The fact that you are there beside them means more to them than you will ever realize. Deep down they wouldn't blame you for ending the relationship and may even try to make it easier for you. The reality is that they don't really want you to go. Most know they need help and want you to be with them.

The first thing that you can do to help them deal with their depression is to understand it. Read as much material on this mental disease as you can. Find out the root causes of it. Trying something and failing could cause as could losing a job. There's heaps of reasons depression can start and it can feed on itself once it gets a foothold even if you are in a strong relationship.

Make you sure look after yourself in the relationship. Depression is insidious by nature and can be contagious if left to it's own devices. When you are learning about depression make sure that you are watching for signs that you may be exhibiting. Don't delay in getting professional help if you do notice any signs. Your relationship may never survive if both of you are suffering from depression. Be sure to step back and keep some time to yourself if you feel like you are being worn down.

Failed relationships in the past can sometimes trigger a bout of depression. You might feel like every relationship is doomed to failure. Once someone begins feeling that way they will many times turn their current relationships in to a failed one. if you notice this happening getting advice from marriage counselors should be a top priority. This is not the only reason that marriages or dating relationships fail while one is in depression. Putting up with the pressure may cause it to suffer. Whatever happens do not give up. Know that the effort you are making matters. There are few things more powerful than what can come from a strong relationship. Depression is a tough foe but it can be beaten when the one you love has you to depend on.
