Do you get your beauty sleep every night or do you find that you toss and turn for hours at a time whilst sleep remains elusively at an arm's length away? Some people find that when they haven't slept well and are therefore feeling tired, they have a tendency to eat rather more than they would otherwise do. It is a fact that many people confuse tiredness signals with those of feeling hungry, making it easy to put on weight and it goes without saying that it becomes more difficult to lose weight.

I'm not trying to say that if you suffer from insomnia you're going to put on weight or not be able to lose weight; far from it. All that I am saying is that if you are tired you will naturally find it more difficult to do what is good for you whilst at the same time increasing the likelihood of seeking something which provides you with a feeling of comfort. Thus if you are a "comfort eater" you are more likely to eat more when feeling tired. Even if you are not a comfort eater, you may still misinterpret your body's signals and misconstrue tiredness as hunger.

Ironically, the very act of digesting food takes a large quota of your energy and will make you feel even more tired than before you succumbed to those signals which were masquerading as hunger. And so one golden rule to remember when you want to lose weight is to make sure that you get your beauty sleep. And during the day, if you feel a little hungry, ask yourself if you are really hungry as opposed to simply just tired before you begin to surf your fridge.

There is also another sense in which you can lose weight by sleeping well. When you sleep you dream. Dreaming performs a very important role in each of our lives; when you dream your brain is integrating new information into your subconscious mind and also working to instinctively resolve conflicts. Dreaming helps you to restore and maintain your emotional balance. How many times have you heard someone urging you to "sleep on it" because you will "feel better in the morning"?

The more emotionally balanced that you feel, the easier it is for someone to maintain a balanced body weight. Your mind and body are intrinsically linked. Eating is for many people far more than just a physical thing; rather, eating is an emotional experience. Ensuring that you have emotional balance will help you to lose weight more easily.

Sleeping well and passing through the dreaming cycles which are part of natural restorative sleeping patterns will help you to keep your emotional equilibrium. You really can lose weight more easily by sleeping well.
