Safes have become a popular way to store your valuables and protect them from things like theft or damage, and there are a good many popular types of safes. Most people know the difference between an electronic safe and a combination safe, and money safes and fire resistant safes are generally quite well known, but let’s take a look at a few of the more obscure choices available.
Data/Media/Laptop Safes
These safes are specifically designed to protect your electronics during a fire. Most fire resistant safes won’t protect any of your electronics in case of a fire. With a data-media safe, your CDs, DVDs, MP3 players, flash drives and more will be safe even during a raging fire.
A laptop safe is constructed with your laptop in mind. Its design is wider than a standard safe with a carpeted interior to keep your laptop case from scratching.
Medical Security Safe
These medical safes are designed specifically to hold a number of different narcotics and antibiotics. Many medical safes are designed so that they can only be opened with two keys at the same time. This is an important feature for clinics, doctor’s offices or hospitals because it’s an extra layer of security to prevent patients from accessing medicine without a prescription or permission.
Medical security safes typically feature more rows that will fit your average medicine bottle.
Gun Safes
Gun safes are probably the best-known type of safe on this list, but non gun collectors might not know much about them. Gun safes are much larger than your general safe because it needs the extra space to hold larger guns like rifles and shotguns. Gun safes feature a gun rack in the interior that holds and organizes your guns, and many gun safes have a rack on the inside of the door to hold smaller firearms and handguns.
Gun safes are essential for any gun owners, and are legally mandatory in certain states. You want to not only keep your guns safe, but you want to keep those in your home, who don’t have the proper experience with weapons, safe.
Drop Box Safe
The drop box is an interesting play on the typical money safe. Typically used by business owners, the drop box money safe is designed to protect cash, receipts, deposits, keys and other valuables that can be dropped out without a face to face interaction. The slot is too small for people to take things out of the drop box once they’ve been put in. These money safes are best used by convenience store owners, restaurants, hotels, bars and other establishments that deal in cash and receipts.
Don’t think that the only safes out there are money safes, fire resistant safes or electronic safes – there is a diverse collection of safes that cater to very specific niches.
