While visiting one of the many beautiful San Diego resorts in Southern California, you may be perfectly content staying on-property and relaxing, but there are many opportunities for fun all over this breathtaking ocean-side city. Most southern California luxury resorts will offer amenities such as world-class golf, tennis courts, manicured grounds complete with pool and spa services, fine dining and often beach access. But San Diego and its surrounding communities offer many attractions and activities that make it well worth leaving your resort.

With a nearly perfect climate year-round, Southern California resorts offer a wonderful vacation experience where there is always plenty to see and do. Enjoying the beach is probably what most people think of when visiting Southern California. Southern California offers over a dozen wonderful beaches to choose from, all with a different personality and feel. In this part of the state, there are endless beach activities to take part in. From swimming, surfing and wakeboarding, to skimboarding, sailing and kiteboarding, there is something for everyone on the Southern California coast beaches.

Hiking and biking are two very popular activities around San Diego as well. San Diego is an active community, and residents and visitors love to spend time outside in the fresh air. The many biking and hiking trails throughout the area vary from gentle cruising on the beach to rugged mountain biking routes. You’ll be delighted fresh Pacific breezes while you explore canyons, mountains, state parks and open coastline by bike or on foot - there’s no better way to enjoy and explore the Pacific coast.

Located just outside of San Diego, Rancho Santa Fe is known for its horses and offers many fun and exciting ways to make your Southern California vacation unique. Some of the finest horse trainers in the country make their home here, and the area has a rich equestrian history. The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club offers over 40 days of exciting horseracing each season, with races available almost daily from July to September. Alternatively, the San Diego Polo Club enjoys one of the longest playing seasons in the county and offers matches every Sunday. Pre-game activities abound with picnics, polo demonstrations, children’s activities and full food and beverage service. There is also a 65-acre equestrian facility located nearby, for those interested in the National Horse Show.

If themed parks, animals and wildlife are more your style, the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park and Seaworld will thrill you and your family. These three local attractions are world-famous and feature over 4,000 animals on over 2,000 acres. You will gain a new appreciation for different species and ecosystems while watching some amazing creatures in their natural habitat.

These activities are just a small assortment of the ways to spend your Southern California retreat, but regardless of what you do, you will be spoiled with blue sky, bright sunshine and fresh seaside air.
