An art agency shoulders the responsibility of promoting the budding talents in the entertainment world. The established artists also maintain an intimate relationship with the artiestenburo that finds works for them and filters out the not-so good offers on their behalf. As the freshers are signing up such a contract for the first time in their life, so they should have a good hang about the must-have provisions of an agreement.
An artiestenburo may work within a limited boundary or on a global arena. The scope of representation is a factor that the artists must take into consideration prior to signing up a deal. Does this agency promote an artist only on national level or international canvas? Does this artiestenburo represent the newcomers in only one field such as playback singing or extend its service to the other areas too? Sometimes, the artists hire different agencies to be represented in various mediums. The artists have to decide whether they want to be represented in one work or multiple works. Many an artiestenburo provides broader coverages in terms of mediums and regions. But these provisions must be explicitly mentioned in the contract paper. Moreover, the artist must hire a lawyer to draft the provided coverages.
Term of the agreement is another important factor that must be taken care of. The contract must mention how long the agreement will be in effect and whether it can be terminated by either party. Most of the agencies want at least three-year agreement with the artists and some of them ask for a longer term. But an attorney must try to include the provision of an untimely termination of the deal on part of the artist in case it is found that the artiestenburo is unable to fulfill its responsibility. If such a provision is not included into the contract paper, then the artist has to stick to the same agency even it fails to deliver satisfactory performance.
A ' key person' clause is a crucial criteria a very few are familiar with. There are many agents in an artiestenburo. Generally, an artist deals with a particular agent instead of several ones. Some agents are in habit of changing the agencies frequently. The inclusion of 'key person' clause provides the artists with an exclusive right to terminate their contract if the agent switches to another artiestenburo. Last but not the least, the service charge of the agency is a great concern for the artists. The agent demands a certain percentage of all the employment projects that he has found for the artist. The service charge may vary from one agent to another. The freshers may find it hard to make the agent agree to a lower fee but they must make sure that the charge does not exceed the industry standard. The broader the scope of representation, the higher the amount of fee demanded by an artiestenburo. An evenementenbureau often works with an agent to hire the artists to add glitz and glamor to an occasion. Entertainment has become almost a part and parcel of a party. The guests sink into refreshment and upcoming artists use the event as a podium to showcase their talent. The artiestenburo deducts a certain percentage from the artist's renumeration paid to it by the event organization.
