Even though you love making your crafts as a hobby, if you want to turn it into a real business with craft sales, you have to treat it like more than just a hobby.
Here are three key ways you can actually leave your profits on the table:
- Cost of Supplies
When you are making your crafts for profit, you need to keep a close eye on what you are spending to make them. Spending too much on supplies is probably one of the biggest mistakes crafters make when they're trying to make a little extra cash by selling their items. Buy in bulk, make deals at the craft store, price check - do whatever you can to lower the cost of making your crafts. That is the first step.
- Determining a Decent Price
What goes into your calculations for your craft sales price tag?
This is another area where money is just left on the table at a craft show.
The cost of your supplies is just one consideration. You also need to include the expenses related to getting to the craft show too-booth fees, travel and food costs, etc. These expenses will also cut into your craft sales profits.
Make sure you mark up your prices to allow for these costs or you'll be lucky to break even and not really make any profit at all.
- Getting People to Your Table
If you build it, they will come, is not the philosophy you want to have at any craft show. You have to entice them to come, make them want to come to your booth to buy.
Without customers, you have no craft sales. Without sales, you make no profits; in fact, you make no money at all.
Make your booth appealing, so people will not only want to come and see what you have, but they're going to tell their friends about it too.
To sum it all up - pay attention to all of your costs and make sure your booth drives people to see what you're selling. Set the price right and you'll make the most craft sales and keep the most profits!
