One word is all I can say and that is wow. The government came out and said it, we need to eat less salt. Only took them about a few decades after mountains of evidence. We are not supposed to eat more then a teaspoon now and that at risk for heart disease even less. But does this go far enough? I would say no.

We need a lot more then just to cut back on salt, fat and carbohydrates, etc. etc. and on and on. It is a vicious cycle that needs to stop!

The diet cycle is really a constant attempt to balance a boulder on our nose, juggling fire batons, while riding a unicycle on a tight rope over a pool of hungry sharks.

In other words, you focus on one thing a little too much and you’re screwed.

I suggest to you that is not how our bodies work, though. Our food is more then the sum of calories, carbs, salt and fat along with some nutrients.

It is so much more then what is found on the label.

The often quoted Hippocrates said it best, "Let food be your medicine, and medicine your food".

Our food should be healthy and more then the "healthy" on the box. The definition of healthy for those boxes is less fat, or less sugar, then they regularly have in their other products!

In most cases it doesn’t have more of what is good for you, just less of what is bad! This makes us feel better about what we are eating but it doesn’t make any better in the long run. It doesn't help us avoid disease at all though.

So here is where I am going with this. I say we need to eat a lot more, not processed nutrient deficient, comes in a box with a label food and a two minute microwave time. But real living fresh food that is as free from pesticides as possible (Don’t get me started on that, that topics is a whole other article). There are living enzymes, vitamins and nutrients that we don’t even have names for yet in fresh living food.

We all hear about antioxidants, well there are literally thousands of different kinds of them! We find more all the time, vitamins are found in different active forms in fruits and veggies as well. All these naturally good things that are so amazing for us, but we completely ignore then and focus on just eating less bad.

So should we all go vegan? While that would be ideal (I am well on my way to becoming one) I know it is not always possible. To you I would say, if you can’t take eating a lot of fruits and veggies, I would recommend juicing them. This something I have been actively doing for a few months. I have several resources that I love listed on my website that you should check out. Also for those who can’t or don’t have the time for that. Eat as fresh as possible and take a lot of supplements such as Resveratrol and a good food based multi-vitamin. This will fill in the holes that you are bound to have with any diet that contains any processed food.
