Nothing can cause the tremendous emotional strain on a couple that a divorce can where children are involved. No one else seemed so great to you as the person you wanted to marry and then you went ahead and married them. To stay together for life was the commitment you two made to each other. It is a fact of life that couples go through hard times in their marriage. Rather than dwelling on a divorce, try to find a way to save your marriage instead.

Many couples who end up getting a divorce have tendencies to look into their past. A person may dwell on a mistake that a partner has made and won't let it go and will hold resentment towards them and will be unwilling to forgive them for it. A couple can help avoid a divorce by focusing on the present and make a commitment to embrace the move forward, not back. By truly forgiving someone for hurting you, you will be surprised at how small the incident will become to you and you both will feel so much better. There are never any winners when someone forgives another person for something they did, only everyone feeling better that the problem is resolved. Forgiving someone means that you are stronger for being able to stand the hurt that they have caused you and that you can allow the natural love that resides in everyone's heart to guide your decisions. Just make things better for the both of you rather than putting all the blame on the spouse

Be realistic about your expectations about your relationship in order to avoid divorce and save your marriage. Each person comes into the marriage expecting it to be a certain way when they first get married. Conflicts can arise later on in a relationship when these expectations are quite different than expected. Once in a while your husband might get up off the couch, turn off his football game on a Sunday and go shopping with you at the mall, if he decides to be nice and go with you one time. While it would be a nice gesture for them to voluntarily go shopping with you instead of watching the big game, do not expect that on a weekly basis. We can't change our spouses, well not as much as we would like to. If they were a neat freak before you got married, they are going to be a neat freak throughout your lives together. Prevent disappointing each other by keeping realistic expectations of how you would like the marriage to be.

Help improve the relationship of being a married couple by learning forgiveness and letting go of unrealistic expectations. It is never too late to patch things up and restore the relationship that you both have devoted your lives to. Try and make a happy and loving marriage by making the commitment to save your marriage -- and don't make the decision to get a divorce.
