Education and perfect skills is one of the basic requirements of becoming a border patrol officer. This is because the job is very risky. There is no guarantee that they will be safe while working and especially when there is a catastrophe in the nation while they are working. The law and order system still requires the officers to produce the required work. And no matter how competent one is, the salary will still be negligible and not flattering. The salary that is given to the border patrol officers is not a compensation of the risks they undertake to ensure that all is well.
The salary of the border patrol officers actually depends on the ranks and experiences of the officers. The higher the rank, the better the salary. It does not matter if you are working on the most dangerous place of the conflict or in an international border. What matters is your rank. But the officers can be moved from one rank to the other depending on the competency of the officer in a given assignment.
The lowest rank in the border patrol service is the GL-5. This also means that it is the lowest paid rank in the system. It is very important to have a law enforcement background and some qualifications to be placed in this rank. If the person is found to have what they are looking for, then they are put in this level. The salary that they will receive annually is approximately $36,658. It is a good salary to start with. It will ensure that you pay all the necessary bills, live a reasonable life without having any problems.
The next level that is slightly higher than the GL-5 is the GL-7. The border patrol officers in this rank have more responsibilities than the officers in the lower rank. The salary for the GL-7 level is approximately $41,729 annually; this is slightly higher than the lower rank. The officers in this level need to have the skills and law enforcement background like the GL-5 and also be able to make some arrests when it is necessary. They might also be required to use fire arms at times during their assignments. They are allowed to use them appropriately and be discrete about it. When it comes to law enforcement matters, they are required to be courteous, tactful and very effective.
The highest rank in the border patrol service is the GL-9. The officers in this rank will earn approximately $ 46,542 per year. The duties of these officers will also be higher then those of the GL-7 rank. The GL-9 officers are required to have better skills that all the officers of the other ranks. Their assignments require them to have a lot of intelligence to be able to deal with their cases wisely. They also deal with a lot of law enforcement projects. We really cannot say if the salary the border patrol officers is good or not but they are a better chance of earning a lot overtime payments while doing their assignments.
