Joint supplements are very popular today and are taken by a wide spread of ages and types of people. These supplements make a range of claims to giving you supple joints to help you maintain muscles and joints.

Have you ever stopped to think about what is them and what these ingredients actually do to your body? Here is a list of the top three ingredients contained within these supplements.

Glucosamine

You will see this mentioned on virtually every bottle / box, but what is it? Well, firstly you will be pleased to learn that it is a natural ingredient and is in fact produced by your body. It is an amino sugar.

The purpose of it is to help reduce the pain caused from joint conditions like arthritis. It does this by aiding cartridge repair, helping to reduce inflammation.

As the form of glucosamine often used in supplements is derived from shellfish, people who are allergic to shellfish should take care when taking products that contain glucosamine.

Chondroitin

This part of your joint supplements is not one for the vegetarians! The form that is used in a lot of supplements is derived from shark cartilage ,cow trachea and pork by products. Not the nicest thought, but at the same time using more form the animals is a benefit.

It does naturally occur in humans and is found in cartilage and bone. Its benefits you by aiding your joints absorbs fluids which help to keep the tissue healthy. It is also an important factor an helping your body produce new cartilage tissue.

Omega-3

This is one of the more well known ingredients and I thin most people are aware that you can obtain Omega-3 from fish. But what benefits does to give and are there other sources?

Some fish do contain high sources of omega-3 but you can also obtain it from Plant sources (Flax Oil). Although there is currently mixed clinical research/results for the joint care benefits, it would appear there is some research showing that it helps once again with inflammation.

So these are the main ingredients in your joint care supplement, and even though Omega-3 link with joint care benefits is not 100% proven it does offer other benefits that make it worth taking. Certainly the benefits of Glucosamine Tablets are proven and it is worth bearing in mind many of these products do suggest that the full benefits are not really gained until you are over 45. My advice is simply to try them to see if they have any benefits to you. If they do brilliant, hopefully they will give you a new lease of life from being able to reduce and improve joint pain.
