Even though your partner is not interested or is doubtful that there is a problem, there are things that you can do in order to save your marriage if you find that it is going downhill. Filing for divorce should not be taken lightly and if you think that you might be on that road, then start today to improve your marriage and your life together.
Even though all marriages are different, in order to maintain a healthy and happy relationship they all still require the same things. The ability to forgive, openness and honesty in communication, a willingness to make time for each other, acceptance and of course love are all the things that a couple needs to have. If a marriage does not have communication, it is missing the key element to a healthy marriage. Resentment can come when a partner is not open and honest and holds those feelings inside. A breakdown of communication between partners will cause each other to not know if there are any problems. Never hesitate to tell your partner about something that you do not like in the relationship, making sure you tell them in a respectful and non-confrontational manor.
Without the element of forgiveness, a marriage cannot survive without it. Holding on to past hurts or betrayals will slowly eat away at you and your love for your spouse. If you are willing to understand that it was a mistake what they did to hurt you and you are accepting that they are sorry for what happened, forgiveness towards them does not mean that you should forget or that you condone the hurtful behavior. Don't let your desire for revenge or stubbornness get in the way of a happy marriage.
Show your spouse that you care for them by having a willingness to make time for them. You can affirm the bond that you share together just by doing things together and leaving the responsibilities of life behind.
Every marriage must have these two things, acceptance and love. You must always show acceptance for your spouse for who they truly are inside. It's no big deal if dishes are in the sink, maybe they are just messy. If they are a neat freak, you can deal with them pushing a mop around your feet. Your spouse is not going to change after the wedding day, you married your spouse for a reason. You show the love for your spouse by the acceptance of them. How can your truly love them if you do not accept them for who they are inside? We get used to treating a person a certain way after years of marriage and it may be hard to remember how a person should be treated. If you truly loved your spouse, wouldn't you give them all of the support that they needed even if they don't support you in the way that you need? Talk to your spouse respectfully even if they don't show you the same courtesy, because that is what you do if you truly love someone. Stop looking for your spouse to treat you the way that you think that you deserve to be treated. Love is about doing what is best for the person you love. Eventually your spouse will follow your example and, in the best way they know how, will show their love for you.
