Almost everything in life today is cheaply made in mass quantities, and furniture is no exception. Whether it’s machine-built or self-assembly, often the longevity of function is impeded by the poor quality of the materials is used. While it may create the look you want, it is unlikely to last for a significant period of time. If you want pieces which looks great and lasts, then handmade furniture is the way to go. Get an original piece handmade from solid wood which will last a lifetime.
When you are redesigning a house or room, it is easy to be swayed by cheap, mass-produced items offered at low prices. Mass-produced wooden items are given very little care and attention when they are built. While they might be cheaper, there is no love in the construction of these items, and they are unlikely to last a long time. Wooden handmade furniture is available in all sorts of styles, with different wood, stains and paint in order to make it fit into any home. Handmade painted furniture is a labour of love, rather than another shoddy product developed solely for profit.
The best thing about having furniture designed is that it can be tailored to your desires, including changes in materials, designs and colours. Handmade furniture can be custom built for your home, so when it is finished it can compliment your interiors. A unique, handmade item like this could easily become the centrepiece of a home or room.
Flat-pack furniture is manufactured with minimal care, and the quality of the items is particularly questionable, especially when they are assembled by customers at home. Those who make furniture themselves tend to prioritise quality and aesthetic.
Flat-pack or mass produced pieces might be a cost-effective way of furnishing a home, but apart from price there a few advantages to using this type of furniture. Self-assembly can be easier said than done, but there are a number of reasons why bespoke, handmade items made from mdf and hand-painted offer much greater quality of workmanship.
If you want to assemble your own then you are likely to need additional tools and glues. If you struggle working with your hands, or are unable to access the necessary tools, you might find yourself assembling it incorrectly. Each time you move the furniture you are likely to find you need to disassemble, and each time it is pulled apart it is likely to grow less stable.
Adam Cairn writes on a number of subjects including mdf furniture, painted furniture & handmade furniture.
