How to Make Money as a Writer

For many people the thought of making a full time or part time living as a writer is very appealing. Most people own a desktop PC or Laptop and have an Internet connection.

The global market for freelance writing (or outsourcing as it is sometimes called) is growing at the rate of 15% a year and there is always demand for written content particularly for websites and blogs.

It makes good economic sense for many companies to outsource writing as they only have to pay for the written work they need and do not have the cost of in-house staff to produce this work.

You will not need any specific writing skills and with the vast resource of research material available to you on the Internet you will be able to write articles and features on every subject that you choose.

Predictably, the hardest part of making a good regular income from writing is finding work. As a freelance writer the world really is your oyster and you can write for clients based anywhere as long as you can communicate by email.

When you are starting you will need guidance on how to find this work.

There are plenty of people out there ready to take your hard earned money with promises of freelance writing jobs. The advice here is simple – never pay anyone who promises to find you work! There may be a few genuine agents but in the most part these are scams and you will not find work going down this route.

So in order to find regular work what do you do?

You need to register as freelance writer with a number of websites where you can advertise your services and where you can bid for jobs.

This is quite straightforward and apart from a nominal monthly fee you will not be charged upfront for this service.

One other piece of advice which will stand you in good stead.

There are plenty of articles available on the Internet on every subject imaginable and these are great for research. However, never copy and paste part or complete articles. This is breaching the original writers copyright and can lead to prosecution if you are found out.

I am sure that you would not want anyone copying your own work, so please do not copy the work of fellow writers. Incidentally you will also notice your freelance work stopping over a period of time if you provide non-original content to clients and of course your feedback will suffer accordingly.

If you set yourself up correctly and start to produce high quality work you will find that there is plenty of work to keep you going.

Being a writer is a great flexible way to create a good income either to supplement your existing income or as new full time career.

A good guide such as the one linked below will tell you all you need to know to get started and is a wise investment.
