Nowadays, homeowners are able to dress their kitchen windows with a wide selection of stylish sheers, lace, drapes, blinds and kitchen valances to name a few. In a lot of cases the homeowner will use their imagination and creative flair to choose a colorful trendy curtain product that will suit the theme or décor of a kitchen.
Some homeowners prefer having short curtains because they provide a restful feeling and therefore bring an inviting atmosphere into the kitchen. For example, a cheap but stylish café style curtain is a practical curtain product that can brighten up a traditional or country style kitchen. These popular kitchen curtains are basically a strip of fabric strung across the lower portion of a window so can be very cost effective. Apart from being a pleasant feature to have as a window dressing, they also provide homeowners with a degree of privacy while they are working in the kitchen.
During the cold months of winter, having a pull-across heavy fabric for kitchen curtains can be advantageous in stopping the heat from escaping outside. However, during the warm summer months too much curtain material hanging on each side of a kitchen window could block the light and warmth from entering.
If you live in a an area with high summer temperatures, you may need to consider hanging classy sheer kitchen curtains as protection from the glare and damaging sun’s rays which can quickly ruin expensive interior fittings and furniture.
Before buying kitchen curtains for the home, it can be a good idea to find out if the fabric you may be interested in has been pre-shrunk and has fade resistant properties. Choosing the right color is also an important consideration, particularly if your kitchen is small because darker shades can make a room look a lot smaller than it actually is.
Lastly, if your stove or cooking hobs are positioned near the kitchen window you may need to consider whether having curtains is a good idea, especially long flowing curtains that hang near a stove that might accidentally catch fire. There is also the issue of steam and hot oil from boiling pots and pans splashing onto expensive curtain fabric causing grease spots and stains to form. A good alternative in this type of situation would be to hang a smart kitchen valance from the top part of the window and perhaps a matching café curtain on the lower portion.
