No one looks forward to having to pay for working electrical and electric repair services. However, if you are experiencing blown circuits, flickering lights or even a slight electrical shock when you touch two appliances at the same time, then you should be concerned with the safety of the electrical wiring in your home or building. Here are some tips for finding a qualified electrician to provide electrical and electric repair services.
The good news is that hiring someone for electrical repair service is more straight forward than hiring someone to do plumbing or construction work. First, always ask to see the electrician’s state license. He should have that readily available to show you and may even have it displayed on the truck. It doesn’t hurt to check the expiration date to ensure it’s a current license.
Once you get past the proof-of-license, you know that the individual has passed tests and has a certain level of competency. By passing the state tests, the electrician is knowledgeable about the National Electric Code (NEC) and any modifications the state or locality has made to the license.
The next thing to evaluate is experience. In order to be a master electrician, the person has to pass the state licensing exams and have a minimum of two years experience. A master electrician can perform and is experienced in a broad array of Electric Repair Service tasks. He has the background and real experience planning, designing and installing electrical and electric repair services.
The other type of licensed electrician is called a journeyman. He is a licensed electrician who is building his credentials with electric repair service experiences. He hasn’t had enough years of experience performing Electrical and Electric Repair Services services to qualify as a master electrician. Some states require that a journeyman work with a master electrician. The big difference is that he can’t plan or design electrical systems, but he can perform basic electrical equipment installation and wiring.
Of course, don’t forget to ask for proof of his liability insurance. Minimally, he should be insured for $500,000 worth of coverage for liability and worker’s compensation insurance to cover himself and his crew. Now you know what to look for when hiring an electrical professional electrical and electric repair services.
