Small rooms are easy to light, with only one 40w light bulb needed to lead occupants out of the dark. However, the same cannot be said for larger areas, such as those found in warehouses, some department stores and particularly outside in loading bays, yards and car parks. To most of us, the problem can easily be solved by installing powerful floodlights, which, as their name suggests, floods an area with strong light. However, they will only do for large exterior places; a different option is needed for interior spaces.

To an extent, lighting interior spaces is dictated to by the particular purpose of the space in question. In an art gallery, for example, lighting is kept as discreet as possible so as not to interfere with the artistic experience that visitors are clearly there to have. A powerful light is not needed in such a situation, even if the area to be illuminated is quite large. But there are ways to marry the required and the desired effects, with track lights offering both a discreet and sophisticated solution to the problem. With any reputable lighting wholesaler stocking them, they are not hard to get either.

Spotlights fixed to a track running along the peripheries or across the centre of a ceiling have become more prevalent in this modern era. While yard lights and security spotlights - even those of small sizes - can fill up a large area outside with one strong, wide beam, the lights on these tracks are small and unobtrusive. Of course, this is by design, as it is generally preferred that a lighting system enhance a visual experience rather than distracted from the particular items on display.

They are, however, highly effective in distributing light. This is because the track on which the spotlights are fixed can run above specific areas, allowing the position of each light to be individually set to highlight specific items or areas. That means that a crystal vase can be highlighted by one light, while a chrome fruit bowl 5 metres from them are highlighted by another. The distribution of light can even be manipulated to darken an area for dramatic effect. The flexibility and creativity are extensive, meaning areas of any size can be effectively and efficiently lit.

With regards exterior spaces, there are several types of lights that can be chosen, with most being part of a security alarm system. However, there are others that cater for gardens and general exterior purposes that relate more to the aesthetic effect that lighting up a building or garden at night has. For this reason, it is as desired by the individual shopper as the business owner.

A popular solution to lighting up the quiet yard at night-time is the Sassari Metal Halide light, which can be easily attached high on a building wall. The cost is higher than for interior lights, but this models black epoxy powder coat finish and silicone gasket seal protects it from the elements. The lens, meanwhile, is made of toughened glass, which also protects it from any debris that may come its way.

While this example is not expensive, there are options that provide even better cost-efficiency for areas that are not so extensive. For example, for the driveway at home, the Eco 26w security light runs on just one 26w energy saving bulb. Since it is low energy in its consumption, it is low cost.

It is clear that floodlights are the most practical answer to illuminating areas outsides, whether it is for security reasons or to enhance the impact of a home during the night. Inside, where the environment is so different, subtlety remains key to the solution since it is the atmosphere that is of most importance. That is why the home utilities store uses track lights with each light easily overlooked by the eye, but their beams focusing on products that the eye does catch.

Whether a solution is required for inside a business premises or outside it, a local lighting wholesaler is certain to have one in stock. Not only that, but the array options is certain to include the most cost-efficient options to save any business, or home, money in the long-run.
